Joe McCormick Named Kentucky Certified Crop Adviser of the Year
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Kentucky Certified Crop Adviser program (KyCCA) has recognized Joe McCormick as the 2017 Kentucky Certified Crop Adviser of the Year. McCormick was recognized Thursday, January 18, by KyCCA chairman Monty Parrish during an awards banquet at the Kentucky Commodity Conference.
McCormick was born and raised on a hog, cattle and tobacco farm in Caldwell County. He holds a bachelor of science degree from Murray State University with an area in agriculture and specialization in animal husbandry. While there, he also acquired his teacher certification. He worked for Hutson Ag Service in Murray for 10 years where he was a salesman, then a manager and finally vice president. Following Hutson, he was the adult farmer instructor for two years in Caldwell, Trigg and Lyon counties. He then returned to retail for Agri-Chem for 14 years followed by starting his own company in 1995. Since then, Joe has been a consultant for Security Seed and Chemical, Crop Production Services and currently assists Southern States Cooperative in Cadiz part-time.
McCormick received his Certified Crop Adviser status in December 1994 and his Certified Nutrient Management Specialist certification in February 2003. He served on the KyCCA board of directors for eight years.
As Kentucky Certified Crop Adviser of the year, McCormick received a recognition plaque, $500 from the KyCCA board and a matching cash award of $500 from NK/Syngenta Seeds.
“Joe is a role model for all Certified Crop Advisers to follow. A 40-year industry veteran and a 20-year CCA, he is a real class act,” said Monty Parrish, KyCCA chairman.
